Elevations, floor plans, details Roc's Comments: Joanie Matheson needed a get away place. A garden house or teahouse. A place that was hers alone and she could escape to it and read or write or just sit and think. It is interesting how many of these little "getaway" places there are here on MDI. A phenomenon of the intense summer season and its sometimes draining impact on the matriarch and hostess. This project was a real pleasure to do. Joanie is a special person and I could sit and draw it by hand and do it all without staff and complications and I love the result and think Joanie does as well.

Sketches, floor plans, elevations Roc Comments: An addition for daughter of Josephine Ingle who we did a guest house for years earlier. Nice couple who did a very respectful expansion on this house that we originally designed for Ira Levy and Stan Gurell.

Sections, floor plan, elevations Roc's Comments: Finley and Joanie Matheson had a sweet piece of land in Seal Harbor behind the wonderful Grosvenor Atterbury church. When Finley asked me to design a new home for them I unfortunately had more work than we could handle and did not want to agree to something we could not due and recommended some fellows in Blue Hill. When their project was complete I did have time to design a small garden cottage for Joanie. This was after those wonderful little "nap houses" scattered thru the hills built by large summer families that wanted a quiet respite from the summer frenzy. Joanie loved it.

Elevations, floor plans, roof framing, mechanical, sketches Roc's Comments: Ned Johnston asked me to design a good sized home for his family. The fee was very tight but we put together a sturdy handsome old boat of a place that not only was home to his growing children but gracefully included his new wife and children a few years later. I like this house a lot. Bob Bond built it and his crew did a good job.

Framing plans, floor plans, elevations, site plans, sketches Roc's comments: Isabel and John Ed Anthony were the nicest clients I had in 45 years of practice. They had funded a Fay Jones Church near Hot Springs Arkansas and liked architecture. They were patient and good natured and always brought the best out of me. I like them very much and we became good friends. Our office designed six buildings for them. Three here on MDI (two built) and three in Hot Springs (one built) The people who helped me with the construction drawings were Tod Hardy and Jeff Wright.
