When Finley asked me to design a new home for them I unfortunately had more work than we could handle and did not want to agree to something we could not due and recommended some fellows in Blue Hill. When their project was complete I did have time to design a small garden cottage for Joanie. This was after those wonderful little "nap houses" scattered thru the hills built by large summer families that wanted a quiet respite from the summer frenzy. Joanie loved it.

Findlay is a fan and collector of old steam engines and various mechanical objects of functional beauty. I had done a renovation of a kitchen of a house he owned in an earlier life nearby and when he asked me to help work up a new home on land he owned between the beautiful Grosvenor Atterbury church and the Greenrock staging area I suggested that his new home might be mostly big barn and work area for his heavy machinery passion with a smaller, functional home attached. When the time came to begin the project I was overwhelmed with other projects and recommended the Surrey firm of Bingham and Woodward to do the project and helped during the construction supervision phase. I think it came out well and have since enjoyed many wonderful dinners in the "barn" which has become more of an art gallery than workshop.

I had done a renovation of a kitchen of a house he owned in an earlier life nearby and when he asked me to help work up a new home on land he owned between the beautiful Grosvenor Atterbury church and the Greenrock staging area I suggested that his new home might be mostly big barn and work area for his heavy machinery passion with a smaller, functional home attached. When the time came to begin the project I was overwhelmed with other projects and recommended the Surrey firm of Bingham and Woodward to do the project and helped during the construction supervision phase. I think it came out well and have since enjoyed many wonderful dinners in the "barn" which has become more of an art gallery than workshop. [show more]
